Guru Arjan Sahib Ji arrived in Sultanvind in 1604 (bikrami 1661) on 6th Magh (mid-January).
Guru Arjan Sahib was enroute to Sultanpur Lodhi and Dalla for the marriage of his son Hargobind (future Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji).
The barat (marriage group) included Baba Budha Ji, Bhai Gurdas Ji, Bhai Bahlo Ji, Bhai Shalo Ji and Baba Bidi Chand Ji.
Gurdwara Sri Atari Sahib Sultanvind marks the location where Guru Arjan pitched a qila (hitching post) which grew into a karir tree.
The present building complex located within a walled compound entered through an imposing gateway was constructed during the early 1950's.
The central building is a hall with a square sanctum in the middle where the Guru Granth Sahib is seated. Above the sanctum are two storeys of square rooms topped by a lotus dome with a gold plated pinnacle.
The Gurdwara is affliated with the SGPC but is managed by a local commitee.
