Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Nawanshahr

On 6th August 1665, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji stopped here to rest while traveling from Baba Bakala to Kiratpur Sahib.

Mata Nanaki, Mata Gujri, Bhai Makhan Shah, Bhai Kirpal Chand (Guru's brother-in-law) and other Sikhs were also with Guru Tegh Bahadur. Guru Tegh Bahadur travelled via Baba Bakala, Amritsar, Thalan, Tarn Taran, Khadoor Sahib, Goindwal, Sultanpur, Kartarpur, Jalandhar, Palahi, Phagwara, Hakimpur, Banga and then to Nawanshahr.

Guru Tegh Bahadur stayed here for 5 months and 19 days preaching Sikhi. Guru Sahib would hold diwans in the morning and evening. Sangats would travel far and wide to see Guru Tegh Bahadur. Mata Gujri would prepare langar.

Guru Tegh Bahadur renamed the name of the area from 'Neemashahr' to 'Nawanshahr'. Guru Tegh Bahadur had a well built which was used to prepare langar and provide water for Guru Tegh Bahadur's bath. The well still exists. From here Guru Tegh Bahadur went to Kiratpur via Durgapur and other villages.
