After defeating Painde Khan and winning the last battle of Kartarpur, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji came to Jindowal en-route to Kirtapur.
Guru Hargobind came here with his family including Baba Gurditta, the future Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji, the future Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and Mata Nanaki Ji. They had arrived from Gurdwara Sri Gurplaha Sahib Sotran which is located only a few kilometers away.
Guru Hargobind stayed here for almost one month and his wounded horse Suhela was also undergoing treatment here.
A Sikh by the name Bhai Jina Ji had buffalos which were not producing milk. After Guru Ji arrived the buffalos started giving milk. In memory Bhai Jina's sewa, this area was named Jindowal.
In the memory of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, Maharaja Ranjit Singh had a Gurdwara constructed here.
The Gurdwara owns approx. 35 acres of land.
