1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Statements

1984 Statements

Statement submitted before the Nanavati Commission

Witness No. 64

Name : Charanjeet Singh

Age : 51 Years

Occupation : Business

Address : N-24, Jangpura Extension, ND-14.

On SA

I am shown the affidavit filed by me before this Commission today. It bears my signature. (The affidavit is taken on record and marked as Exhibit No.64/1). I have nothing more to add to what I had stated in my affidavit.

Cross examination by S.S. Gandhi, Sr. Advocate on behalf of Delhi Police

On 1.11.84 the police had come to our area two or three times. Every time police came there and asked us to go inside. On hearing the noise outside we used to come out and the police used to tell us to go inside. No other incident has taken place on 1.11.84 near our house.

On 2nd November, 1984 also no other incident was taken place except what I have stated in my affidavit. It is true that SHO Daryao Singh was honoured by the Gurdwara later on for rendering help to the Sikhs. He was a non Sikh police officer.

DCP Sewa Das who had come there had also told us to go back to our houses and had assured us that he would take appropriate steps. It is incorrect to say that DCP Sewa Das had sent the army to our locality.

No Cross examination by K.K. Sud, ASG on behalf of Central Government

Read over and found correct.
