Statement submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I have filed an affidavit before this Commission. I am shown that affidavit. It bears my signature. The affidavit is taken on record and marked as Exhibit No.56/1. In addition to what I have stated in my affidavit, I say that in our locality there were about 200-250 houses of Sikhs. I have personally seen them being burnt. About 200 Sikhs were killed in our locality. Now there are 6-7 Sikh families staying in our locality.

Cross examination by S.S. Gandhi, Sr. Advocate on behalf of Delhi Police

It is true that Ms Surinder Kaur, W/o Charan Jit was staying in A-11 of our locality. Even after the incident which had happened on1.11.84 referred to in para 3 of my affidavit the police had not come to our place. I do not know if Inspector Bhim Singh was SHO of our locality.

It is not correct that the police had come there and used tear gas and had also fired shots to disperse the attacking mobs. I had concealed myself at 1.00 pm. It is incorrect to say that incident took place in the morning at 9.30 am and no incident had happened thereafter. I had not field any affidavit earlier nor I had given any statement to the police. I had not given in writing to anybody or to any authority.

I do not know if any offence was registered by the police in respect of the incident mentioned by me in the affidavit. Swaran Singh, S/o Mela Singh was staying in our locality but I do not know he was staying in House No.A-1. Prem Singh was staying in house No.A-17.
