1984 Statements

Statement submitted before the Nanavati Commission

Witness No. 24

Name : Ashok Jaitly

Age : 59 Years

Occupation : Chief Secretary of J&K

Address : Fairview, Gupkar Road, Srinagar, J&K

On SA

I earlier filed an affidavit before Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission. I was shown with a copy of the affidavit and say that it is the copy of the affidavit. It is taken on record and marked as exhibit No.24/1. I have nothing more to add to what I have stated in my affidavit.

Cross examination by S.S. Gandhi, Sr. Advocate on behalf of Delhi Police

I had not personally seen the incidents regarding which I had received a call from Shir Ravi Nair. I had not complained to the higher authorities with respect to the conduct of the Junior Police Officer to whom we had made a complaint regarding gang of youth down the road, who were stoning the cars on the Lodhi Road.

Cross examination by K.K. Sud, ASG on behalf of Central Government

I cannot say anything about the composition of the mob which was stoning stones on the cars on the Lodhi Road. But I had seen large number of persons moving in trucks and they appear to be persons dressed in the Seva Dal uniform.

The mob which I had seen in the Lajpath Nagar were with Lathis, Iron Rods and Trishuls. The mob on Lodhi Road were shouting slogans 'Khoon Ka Badla Khoon Se Lenge'. The mob in the trucks were also shouting the same slogans.

Read over and found correct.
