1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Statements

1984 Statements

Statement submitted before the Nanavati Commission

Witness No. 105

Name : Amarjit Singh

Age : 32 Years

Occupation : Business

Address : Shop No.28, Kalgidhar Market, Anandpur Sahib, Punjab

On SA

I am shown exhibit No.W105/1 it is the same affidavit which is filed earlier before this commission. The contents of the affidavits are correct. It bears my signature. I am shown the annexure to the affidavit. It is signed by Surinder Singh. I identify his signature because I have seen him signing.

Cross examination by S.S. Gandhi, Senior Advocate on behalf of Delhi Police

I had not filed any affidavit earlier before any authority regarding what I have stated in the affidavit filed before this Commission. Surinder Singh was not present when the incident had taken place. Surinder Singh had stated in the complaint whatever I had told him. When the incident was going on about 10 to 15 policemen had come. I do not know if anyone of them was an officer as I was very young at that time.

It is not correct to say that the police had resorted to lathi charge at that place. They were merely standing and watching what was going on. It is true that the mob at the time of incident was about 2000 to 3000 persons. Surinder Singh had read over to me the complaint which I had dictated to him. All that I had stated to him is written by him.

I do not know if FIR No.275/84 was registered by the police on the basis of the complaint made by Surinder Singh at Police Station Yamuna Puri.

Read over and found correct.
