1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Surjit Kaur, aged 35 years w/o S. Joginder Singh, r/o C-40, DDA Flats, Slum Tenements, Garhi, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. I along with my family was earlier residing in our Q.No.A-3/67, Nand Nagri, near Shahdara, Delhi at the relevant time.

2. That on 1-11-84, at about 2000 Non-Sikh mob with iron rods, lathis and kerosene oil came in our area and they first set on fire the Gurdwara near our house.

3. Then this mob come towards our house. My husband and his three brothers were also residing in four different quarters in the same street. The mob who was headed in our street by one Ramesh Raj Mistry of Nand Nagri, Jamna Devi with her five sons, Prabhu, Rattan, Pappu, Surinder and Rajinder, attacked first the house of Jaswant Singh by brick batting the house and then set the door and house on fire. Jaswant Singh and family come out of the house and then Jaswant Singh was attacked with iron rods and lathis. He was killed and then dragged away to the rear street where they had established a big oven in which the bodies of the slain Sikhs were thrown and when they were half roasted they were then thrown out nearby.

4. Then they attacked the house of Sh. Ishwar Singh No.A-3/66 in a similar manner. Ishwar Singh was also killed like wise and half roasted and then thrown out.

5. Then the house of Joginder Singh living in A-3/67, Nand Nagri was attacked and Joginder Singh was also killed in similar manner, and his son Kamaljit Singh aged 17 years of aged was killed by throwing him from the top floor down and then they were half – roasted and thrown out.

6. Then the house of Sh. Onkar Singh, living at A-3/54, was also attacked and Onkar Singh was killed.

7. Houses of all the above named persons were looted and burnt. The culprits are named in para No.3 above. Jamna Devi and her sons are Cong. (I) workers.

8. On the same date at about 8.30 PM house of Balbir Singh was attacked at A-3/69 and Balbir Singh was also killed by them and his house was looted and burnt.

9. My report was not recorded by the police for my mentioning the names of the culprits. I was told to go to Gurdwara otherwise I shall be dishonoured by them.

10. Kindly take action against culprits and pay me compensation.
