1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Surjit Kaur widow of late S. Darshan Singh, age 40 years, resident of 301-A/1, Nand Nagri, presently residing at B-99, Tilak Vihar, solemnly affirm as under: -

1. On 1-11-84, at about 1 PM we heard some noise from the adjoining Blocks. My entire family comprising of three sons, three daughters and my husband got surprised. Smoke was emanating from all sides. We spend the whole night in a state of anxiety. We kept on wondering where to go. My brother came from Shahdara in the afternoon. He told me that he was harassed on the way but somehow he managed to reach home.

2.On 2-11-84, at about 7 a.m. the mob suddenly entered our house. We were drinking tea at that time and the tea cups were in our hands. The mob was carrying iron rods, earth digging long iron implements, lathis, stones and bricks. We all ran towards the roof. They broke open the outer gate and entered the house. Then they dragged out my husband and attacked him with iron rods. He fell down and they burnt him after sprinkling some powder.
