1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Surinder Singh S/o Gurcharan Singh, age 48 yrs., R/o WZ-A-47, Anand Vihar, R-Block, Uttam Nagar, New Delhi-59, do hereby solemnly affirm and state on oath as under: -

1. On 31st October,'84, at about 8 pm, I along with Mohinder Singh, Jarnail Singh and Narain Singh and few other Sikhs of Anand Vihar went to Hari Singh of WZ-B-83, Anand Vihar. He is kind hearted person. We requested him to save our life. He assured us that he will ensure full safety to us. He told us that children and ladies can come and stay with them as he had three houses at present with him. Some Sikhs sent their children and families there.

2. In the morning of 1st November'84, at about 9 am, there was loud noise on the main road. I saw mob beating one Sikh. All his clothes were torn and then removed. He came running naked to our colony. He was protected by Hari Singh and given clothes and was given medicine and first aid.

I again went to Sh. Hari Singh along with few Sikhs. He again assured us that he will see that no outsider enters the Colony and advised that we should not assemble at one place so as to avoid unnecessary attention. Some Sikhs went to stay with him. Then we organized seven pickets for guarding the colony. These were manned by all the residents of the Colony. There was no attack on the Colony.

3. On 3rd November'84, military came to the Colony and asked if Sikhs would like to go to camp. Most of the Sikhs left and went to the camp. There is no loses of property or life of Sikh in Anand Vihar.
