1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Satnam Singh, aged about 33 years son of Late S. Ranjit Singh, r/o B-66, Gulab Bagh, New Delhi-59, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. That on 1-11-84, Non-Sikhs started looting and burning the properties of Sikhs in my area and started killing the Sikhs also.

2. That on 2-11-84, at about 3.30 am Non-Sikh mob headed by Palu Raj Paul Kerosene Oil Dealer at Matiala Road, New Delhi-59, came there. They first of all under the orders of Palu looted and burnt the house of S. Nanak Singh near my house then they attacked my house. Palu was having double barrel gun. Under his orders my house was also looted and burnt. He ordered me and my family members to stand in a line because he said we were to be shot. We prayed for mercy. After my house was looted and set on fire, I was clean shaven under order of Palu by a barber Piarey Lal, who worked at Nawada bus stop.

3. I suffered a loss of property worth Rs.30,000/-.

4. Palu even distributed kerosene oil for burning the properties of Sikhs.

5. That the police of the area failed to give any protection to the Sikhs and no action was taken against the culprits. Police even assisted the mob for committing these crimes.

6. That the whole episode take place at the instance of Congress (I) worker of the area and it seems that on the instructions of Government the police deliberately did not take any action against the culprits.
