I, Sarup Singh S/o Megh Singh, R/o B-32, Jyoti Nagar East, Loni Road, Shahdara, Delhi-110093. Present residing at B-42, East Krishan Nagar, Delhi-51, do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under: -
1. That I say that on 1-11-84, I along with my family, were inside of my house. At about 1230 hours two police trucks with arms were standing in front of my house. Most of them were in uniform and some in plain cloths. We were in the impression that these forces are protecting us. In no time a mob of about 500 – 600 persons began to attack the house from all sides. They broke the doors, windows, glasses with heavy bricks bats, iron rods and entered the house.
We folded hands and requested them but they did not listen at all and tried to kill us with iron rods. Some of the policemen standing there also joined the mob. Some people in the mob were seen with pistols in their hands facing us. Their tendency was to kill, ruin, loot and burn the houses of the Sikhs families completely. I was hit on my head with rods and started bleeding and I fell down. Some persons from the mob put a silken 'Sari' on my legs and set it on fire. My legs were seriously burnt.
2. My elder son Inderjit Singh was hit on his head, hands and legs. He was also profusely bleedings. My younger son, Devinder Singh was also seriously injured. My wife tried to save my elder son, Inderjit Singh. She was beaten up very badly. My daughter in law, my daughter, my grandson went to Mr. Jain's house in our neighbourhood few minutes earlier to the attack and Mr. Jain saved them.
The mob looted the valuables in the house and then set the house on fire. The policemen standing in front of our house were guiding the mob and some of them in plain cloths also participated in rioting and looting. My two scooters, cycle and one buffalo were taken away by the mob.
When the mob was busy in looting the valuables, my son lifted me and brought me out of the house and managed to take me to the hospital. The mob comprised of outsiders. I could not recognize any one of them. The whole of our house was burnt and looted and I have not received any compensation.
