1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Rekha Kaur W/o Puppu Singh aged 32 yrs. residing in a Jhuggi No.94, located between Block 11/12, Kalyanpuri, Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That in Oct./Nov.'84, I and my husband were staying at the above address. I and my husband were "Basket Weavers". I had got married two months previously. My Jhuggi contained all my dowry items.

2. That on 31st Oct. 84, our area was quite.

3. That on 1st Nov.'84, when our are was invaded by violent killer mobs, my husband and I took shelter on the 3rd Floor terrace of a friend. We stayed hidden there for 2 days.

4. That on 3rd Nov.'84, the military evacuated us to a Rufugee Camp near the Gurdwara we stayed in this Refugee Camp for 2 months.

5. That my Jhuggi was looted and burnt. I lost all household goods, utensils, beddings etc. I suffered a loss of Rs.30,000/-.

6. That I lodged a complaint with Kalyanpuri Police Station (copy attached).

7. That I have not received any compensation so far.
