1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

AFFIDAVIT OF RAM SINGH, S/O HARKISHAN SINGH AGED 36 YEARS R/O 93, EAST AZAD NAGAR, DELHI.

I, Ram Singh, the above named deponent, do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under:

1. That I say that on 1st November, 1984 when I was standing near the Police Station Krishna Nagar, Delhi-51, at about 3.00 PM lot of people came from B-Block and the most famous goondas of this area Virender Negi whom I personally know was leading the mob and Mr. Sukhin Lal Sood was carrying Congress flag and attacked the house of Swaran Cinema owner which is only about 30 yards away from PS Krishna Nagar, Delhi-51. Mr. Negi was shouting "Looto and Maro, Sikhs are the Traitor of this Nation." Mr. Sood stood close to the police station and was talking to the SHO Mr. Bhaskar and Mr. Kapoor who assured him to do whatever you wanted to do. The police will not stop you.

2. At about 3-4 PM many more people came and joined them. Mr. Negi asked them to attack the house and started throwing stones at the said house of Cinema owner. He came out with folded hands and requested the mob to spare the life of his children and not to hit stones at them. He also fired two rounds in the air to defend himself and his family and due to that, most of people ran away but Mr. Virender Sharma, "Negi" brought people just on the road under the building of PS Krishna Nagar and then brought more people with lathies, iron rods and some more dangerous Talwars etc. and attacked the house from the back side and sprayed kerosene oil and some chemical and set the house on fire.

3. When I heard the cries of men and children I asked Mr. Bhaskar to please do something and save them, you have so much police force. He threatened me that you would also be killed if you speak any more. In my presence the house was set on fire and became a cloud of smoke and the cries also finished. One man from the house came out who was hit by a iron rod by Mr. Negi and fell on the road.

4. I am also attaching a history of Mr. Negi being a hard criminal published in Indian Express on November 20, 1984 and also attaching the name of the people who died on that day in this incident.
