1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Raghubir Singh, aged 45 years, wife of Jaswant Singh, r/o C-38, DDA Flats, Slum Tenements, Gardhi, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. I along with my family members was earlier residing in A-3/65, Nand Nagri, near Shahdara, Delhi at the relevant time.

2. On 1-11-84, at about 10 AM about 2000 Non-Sikhs with iron rods, lathis and kerosene oil came and first set the Gurdwara on fire and then attacked our houses. This mob was headed by one Ramesh, Raj Mistry of Nand Nagri, Jamna Devi her five sons, Prabhu. Rattan, Surinder and Rajinder and Pappu all Congress (I) workers. First the house of Jaswant Singh was attacked with brickbats and then set on fire. Jaswant Singh & his family came out along with me. They attacked my husband with iron rods and lathis and killed him and dragged him away into the rear street where they had established a big oven in which bodies of the slain Sikhs were half roasted and then thrown out.

3. Then they attacked the house of Sh. Ishwar Singh, No.A-3/66 and then of Sh. Joginder Singh No.A-3/67 and thereafter the house of Sh. Onkar Singh at A-3/54, Nand Nagri of the same street were attacked one by one. Ishwar Singh, Joginder Singh and his son Kamaljit Singh aged 17 years and Onkar Singh were killed, half roasted and then thrown out. In our street 48 Sikhs were killed by them in Block-A.

4. That our houses were looted and burnt. Women-folk were also beaten severely.

5. On the same date at 8.30 PM house of Balbir Singh at A-3/69 was attacked, Balbir Singh was killed likewise and his house was looted and burnt.

6. My son Jaspal Singh 19 yrs. of age along with his two Sikh friends were also burnt alive by miscreants noted above at 10 AM on 2-11-84.

7. My report was not recorded by the police for my mentioning the names of the culprits. I was told to go to Gurdwara, otherwise I shall be dishonoured by them.

8. Kindly take action against culprits and pay me compensation.
