1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Pyara Singh, aged 65 years, S/o Sant Singh Sahni, resident of D-553, Jahangirpuri, Delhi-33, do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under: -

1. That on 31.10.84 after hearing the sad news of the death of our Prime Minister, we were very pained. I closed my shop and went to my residence.

2. On 1.11.84 at about 10 – 11 am, when I was sitting at my shop one man came and told me that Sardarji, you close your shop and go to your house. People are killing Sikhs and their shops and houses are being looted and burnt. Then I closed my shop and returned to my house. A mob consisted of about 800 – 900 people and they were carrying iron-rods, spears, sticks, swords, kerosene oil and white chemical powder in their hands. One Muslim named Mukhim was leading the mob and was pointing about the houses of the Sikhs. The mob shouting following slogans: -

"Sikh Kaum Ke Gaddar Hai" (Sikh are traitors), "Unhon Ney Hamari Maa Ko Mara Hai" (They have killed our mother), "Unko Maro" (Kill them), "Unka Ek Bhi Bacha Zinda Na Rahey" (Do not spare even a single child of the Sikh Community), "Khoon Ka Badla Khoon" (Avenge blood with blood).

3. When I was going to my house after closing my shop, on the way I was beaten by the mob. My shop, 20 rickshaws and house were looted. I suffered a loss to the tune of Rs.1 lakh and ten thousand. I have still injury scars on my head and legs. There was no sign of police at all. We remained in the house of neighbour till 2.11.84. Then we were removed to camp by the military on 2.11.84. We remained in the camp from 2.11.84 to 9.11.84. Now I live here. I sell toffees and sweets at the gate of the school.
