I, Pratap Singh Granthi, aged about 50 years, s/o S. Gurmukh Singh, r/o Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha, Basti Sarai Rohilla, Old Rohtak Road, Delhi-35, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -
1. That on 1.11.84, at about 2.30 PM the Gurdwara was attacked by the Non-Sikhs mob. I announced on the loud speaker to inform the Sikh residents of the locality that they should reach the Gurdwara to protect it from the onslaught by Non-Sikhs. In response to this appeal, number of Sikhs gathered in the Gurdwara.
2. That various attacks of the Non-Sikhs on the Gurdwara was successfully repelled by the Sikhs in the Gurdwara. After some time the police came in a vehicle who did not take any action against the attacking Hindu mob but on the other hand loudly announced that Sikhs should not stand outside Gurdwara but should immediately enter the Gurdwara. The Sikhs immediately complied with this order. Immediately at that time Railway Protection Force started firing on the Sikhs from across the boundary of RPF lines, Daya Basti, Delhi-33 on the opposite side of the Gurdwara across the road.
3. I say that this firing by RPF was totally unprovoked and continued for about an hour and about 100 rounds were fired, killing several persons and injuring many Sikhs. This firing was resorted to by RPF jawans because the Sikhs protected the Gurdwara from being looted and set on fire. The RPF Jawans were also Non-Sikhs. The bullets also struck the wall and beams of the roof. Metal of one spent bullet is still available in the wall of the Gurdwara which is preserved now.
4. One Mohan Lal s/o Puran Chand, a great devotee of the Gurdwara, Jagjit Singh aged 25 years s/o Hardit Singh, Surinder Singh s/o Gurdit Singh, one Manoharlal Dewan s/o Damodar Das etc. were killed by the bullets of the RPF, one Surjit Singh, young son of S. Balvinder Singh was first thrown down from high roof of Gurdwara and was then set ablaze by pouring kerosene oil on who also died. One old lady also received bullet injuries. One Balvinder Singh was also injured. Paramjit Singh was also killed.
5. That the mob then succeeded to break open the Gurdwara which was then looted and burnt including the property and building of the Gurdwara. Police did not take any action against the culprits, nor the Government took any action, the RPF jawans for firing and looting the Gurdwara. Stern action is called for.
