1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Prakash Kaur, aged about 60 years wife of S. Gurcharan Singh, presently resident of C-91, DDA Flats, Slum Tenements, Garhi, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. That earlier I was residing at the relevant in my house No. 175, Block No. 30, Tirlokpuri. Delhi.

2. That on 1.11.1984, non-sikh mob started killing Sikhs, looting their properties and burning their houses. I and my family members could save ourselves on 1-11-84.

3. That on 2-11-84, at about 4 PM about 200 to 300 Non-Sikhs mob came to kill me and my family members and attacked us. Door of my house was broken. At that time my sons Bakhshish Singh 28 years and Arjan Singh 18 years and one Rajinder Singh alias Gudu, 28 years were taken out from our house No.192, Block No.39, Trilokpuri. My husband was also taken out by the mob from the said quarter No.192, where they were hiding for safety, by breaking open the door of the quarter. They started beating my sons and husband mercilessly with iron rods and lathies.

My son Arjan Singh and Rajinder Singh alia Gudu were killed on the spot by one Rana, driver living in our back street in Trilokpuri, Romesh living in second street from my house in Block No.30, one Satpaul and his younger brother who are doing business of export and are living in the back street, three Jamadars of the area, who are living near the lavatory block, one scooter driver living in the back street of my house, one Ashok and his brother living in block No.30 towards the road. There were about 30 more persons who killed both the above persons in my presence and I identify them because they are the residents of the area.

4. Bakhshish Singh tried to save himself and thus ran away. He was injured by stones. He fell down, but he again got up and started running then he entered in one house in the area. He went up the roof of that house. The above mentioned assailants followed him and then threw him down the roof and then they put kerosene oil on him while he was alive and burnt him alive. My husband Gurcharan Singh was severely beaten and he was thrown in the fire, but some persons saved his life.

5. When my sons and relative Gudu were being killed, police was present at the spot, but no action was taken. My entire house was looted and then set on fire. The looting also carried out by the above mentioned persons. My loss is of 30000/- of property and jewellery and cash of Rs.2,500/-. This well planned attack was organized by these Congress (I) workers. Police refused to record FIR, with names of the culprits.

While burning and killing, the assailants were jeering dancing and laughing. More than 600 Sikhs were killed in Trilokpur, eight trucks of dead bodies were removed from block No.32 and two trucks from block No.30. No compensation is given to me. No criminal is arrested or punished.

Action may be taken against the culprits.
