1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

AFFIDAVIT OF SMT. PREM KAUR, WIFE OF SHRI RAM SWARUP SINGH, AGED 50 YEARS, RESIDENT OF J-1825, JAHANGIRPURI – AT PRESENT RESIDING AT 90-Y, DDA FLATS JAHANGIRPURI, NEW DELHI.

I, Prem Kaur, the deponent named hereinabove, do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under: -

1. On hearing the news of the sad demise of Indira Gandhi we had gone to pay our homage in the morning of 1st November, 1984 itself. We returned home when we learnt about riots and arsoning. In front of our old residence we saw that on 1-11-84 at 10:00 AM, about 20 – 25 persons were having / meeting on the roof of the house of Vinod. Amongst those assembled there I recognized;

i) Vinod,

ii) Diwaker,

iii) Ramkishan,

iv) Dalchand and

v) Papu,

being Congress (I) workers. Everybody knows them. I have myself been a Congress Sewa Dal worker and therefore, I do recognize these persons. For some reason these people clapped and expressed happiness.

2. Afterwards I came to know from Pritam's wife that these persons had gone to Pritam's house at 9 O'clock at night. After meeting them, they promised to save him. Then they persuaded Pritam Singh to deliver to them Rs.3,000/- his wife's golden bangles and his weapons. And later on at 9:00 AM on these very persons killed Pritam. It was this plan which was hatched in the meeting. On 2nd November, 1984 we were hiding, the long hair of the children were cut and we came to the police chowki of Jahangirpri for protection. But there was very little protection for us. That is why, first we went to Azadpur Police Thana and later to military's Ludlow Castle Camp.

3. On 2-11-84 while going to police chowki, Jahangirpuri, my husband was beaten with iron rods and I was beaten with lathis. My feet are still swollen.

4. When we came back home from the Camp, we saw that our house had been completely looted and burnt.
