1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Mohinder Singh aged about 60 years, son of S. Wadhawa Singh, r/o C-28, Kiran Garden, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. That on 1-11-84, at about 10 am, mob of Non-Sikhs was seen gathering towards the Nursery of Amarjit Singh Pradhan of village Matiala. At about 10.30 am this mob attacked the house and shop of Gurcharan Singh. Gurcharna Singh and his son Pavitar Singh were killed by iron rods used by the mob. I had then seen them killing these two persons then their house and shops were looted and set on fire.

2. That on 2-11-84, at about 6 am in the morning, my house was also attacked by Non-Sikh mob and house and factory both were looted and then set on fire.

3. That during this process of looting and burning, my gas cylinder caught fire and one Bittoo employee of Bai Singh's Fair Price Shop, Nawada, one son of Darshan Lal Sharma, G-20, Kiran Garden, New Delhi who were amongst the mob in question, received burn injuries.

4. I have suffered a loss more than Rs.2,00,000/- and no proper compensation is given to me.

5. That all this burning, looting and killing took place within the sight of the police who was roaming about but was not protecting the Sikhs or taking any action against the Non-Sikh criminals. The police refused to record my report because I wanted to mention the names of the above two persons, which were identified by me. This looting and burning of properties and killing of Sikhs, was organized by Congress (I) workers who were openly assisted by police. Nobody took action against them till date.

Action may be taken against the culprits.
