1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Mohinder Kaur widow of Fauja Singh, resident of Camp-B/9222, Jehangirpuri, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare on oath as under: -

1. On November, 1984, at 4 o'clock some person came to our house and asked us to give them our swords and they would protest us. They went away after taking our swords. These people included the following: -

a. Vinod Kumar – resident of I-Block, Jehangirpuri.

b. Dal Chand – resident of Block-J, Jehangirpuri.

c. Pappu – resident of I-Block, Jehangirpuri.

2. They were on watch for the whole night. But on November 2, the aforesaid and their other colleagues number about 500 came to our mohalla and started shouting, "Sardaro, come out and get your hair cut." Then I came down from the roof and made hand folded request not to kill us because we are outsiders. At first they physically assaulted me but after some left the place after hurling abuses at us.

3. After sometime at about 9 AM, the aforesaid people again returend and even by that time we were at our roof top. All these persons climbed on the nearby roof tops and started pelting stones at us. Then we came down. These people also came down and entered our house. They took the kerosene oil with them also. They poured the oil upon us. First they assaulted my husband with swords and then they set him on fire. Then in the same manner my husband's elder son and my nephew Jagjit (aged 18 years) were burnt. I became unconscious at that time. Then they returned.
