1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Mohan Singh s/o S. Attar Singh aged 27 years, r/o 32/59, Trilokpuri, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and state on oath as under: -

1. On 31-10-1984, after the assassination of Indira Gandhi we were watching the T.V. In the T.V. we heard the slogan, "Khoon Ka Badla Khoon."

2. On 1-11-1984, at about 10 – 10:30 AM a mob consisting of about 400/500 men came to attack us. They were having iron rods, kerosene oil tins, lathis etc. in their hands.

3. The police also came at the same time. Havaldaar Rajveer was also among them. We requested them for help. They asked us to go to our houses.

4. SHO Tyagi also came at that time. Instead of stopping the mob, he threatened us and went away alongwith the policemen.

5. At the same time the mob launched its attack upon it. They started looting and burning the houses. Dr. Ashok also came there at the same time and instead of extending any help to us, he incited the mob against us and killed my two brothers Kewal Singh and Mewal Singh. Then he poured kerosene oil upon them and set them on fire. It was about 2.30 to 3 PM.

6. With great difficulty, after getting my hair cut, I escaped and went to the Police Station. I begged the police for help but on the contrary they beat me with canes and turned me out of the police station.

7. Afterwards I went to the Police Headquarters also, but when they came to know that I was a Sikh, they turned me out.

8. Then I went to the office of "Jan Satta". They kept me with them for three days and after hearing my narration, the Jansatta reporters Rahul Bedi, Aluk, Tomar and Joseph saw the conditions prevailing in Trilokpuri.

9. On 1-11-1984 I told about the disturbances and Trilokpuri's condition to HKL Bhagat on telephone. Some person named Gosain picked up his telephone but they did not lend me any credence.
