1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Lakhbir Singh, aged about 24 years S/o S. Inder Singh R/o C-67, DDA Flats, Slum Tenements, Garhi, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under:

1. That at the relevant time I was living a Jiwan Park, Uttam Nagar, New Delhi with my sister Jasbir Kaur.

2. That on 1.11.84, non-Sikhs mob started looting and burning the properties of Sikhs. This continued on 2.11.84 also. I, my sister, her husband Paramjit Singh with his brother Gurdial Singh and Gian Singh and children saved ourselves with great difficulty in our houses.

3. That on 3.11.84, at about 5 or 6 am in the morning, about 400 non-sikhs attacked us. This mob was headed by Ramesh, Sweeper and Gudu Oil Vendor, who also supplied Kerosene Oil for burning the properties and male Sikhs. The brother of the sweeper Ramesh was also with him.

It is stated that in the night of 2-11-84, Gudu kept on announcing on the loudspeaker repeatedly that Sikhs had mixed poison in the water and thus water should not be taken by anyone. He also several times announced that a train full of dead bodies of Hindus has come from Punjab. He further falsely announced on loudspeaker time and again that Sikhs had killed Hindus in Tilak Nagar and Subhash Nagar, so much that the roads are fully covered by blood.

4. Then our house was attacked on 3.11.84, as mentioned above, at that time Paramjit Singh had gone just outside and he was killed by Gudu and Ramesh sweeper and I myself saw this killing. They struck iron rod blows at his head and other parts of the body and then took away the dead body. Our house was looted.

5. The police did not give any assistance to us, nor my report was recorded by the Police, who asked me not to name anyone for killing. This attack was well organised by Congress (I) workers. Gudu and Ramesh sweeper. Action may be taken against culprits.
