1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Ladhu Ram, aged 40 years, presently residing at Guru Nank Public School, West Avenue, Punjabi Bagh, Delhi, solemnly affirm and declare as under: -

1. I am working as a peon in the Guru Nanak Public School.

2. On 1-11-84, I heard a very loud commotion and we, therefore, closed and secured the gates of the school.

3. After a little while I saw that an Ambassador car belonging to the police department came and parked outside the school. After this one person arrived on a bullet motor cycle and immediately thereafter another Ambassador car came and stopped in front of the school. Some persons, dressed in white clothes and wearing badges, were sitting in the car. Just then a small red truck arrived and stopped. There were many people (men) in the truck.

These men were armed with rods, sticks, wooden poles and tins of kerosene oil. These people (mob) broke down the gate of our school and entered the school premises. After entering these people started setting fire to the school (building etc.) and after this tehy set fire to the school buses. After this, the mob went away from the school. This mob completely destroyed the school hall, staff room, principal's room, management room etc.

4. My comrades – Laatu Ram, Darshan Singh, Kartar Singh – were eye witnesses to this entire incident. In our school no celebration of any kind whatsoever took place nor did any body distribute sweets. In fact, on hearing the news that our beloved leader had been shot, we all prayed for her complete recovery.

5. The police also did not come to protect us in our school. This mob was of about 400 to 500 people. It went via the ring road and joined up with the mob in the truck.
