1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

Affidavit of S. Kuldeep Singh S/o S. Gurmukh Singh, aged 24 years, R/o 10, West Avenue, Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi.

I, the abovesaid deponent do hereby solemnly declare and affirm as under: -

1. That on 31-10-1984, I came to know that somebody has shot dead our Prime Minister Shrimati Indira Gandhi. Grief struck in our mohalla and everybody expressed great shock.

2. That on 1-11-84, on the insistence of everybody, we cancelled the early morning daily religious procession (Prabhat Pheri) because everybody was greatly shocked at the murder of our leader. The religious procession was to start from Gurdwara Singh Sabha, which is just near our house.

3. That on November 1, 1984, at about 11 am, when I along with my family was at home, I saw a big mob on foot, scooters, bicycles etc. coming towards us. They were raising slogans like, "kill the Sikhs, burnt their houses, loot them, finish them off etc. etc." This mob proceeded towards us after setting on fire Guru Nanak Public School.

4. That the mob dragged our car No.DEB – 6928 on the road and set it on fire. They also set on fire the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Punjabi Bagh and then they attacked us. When the mob tried to set our house on fire by throwing fire ball, my neighbour S. Pal Singh fired a few rounds in air from his licensed pistol and thereupon the mob left our place.

5. That on hearing the aerial shots of S. Pal Singh, my aforesaid neighbour, two DTC buses, two mini buses (one bus bearing number DHP – 103, a mini bus) arrived there. Many persons alighted from these vehicles. They were having lathis, iron rods white powder etc. with them.

We rang up police several times. However, the police vehicle come at about 2 pm. The police party instigated and encouraged the mob to go ahead and no body will do them any harm.

6. That in the evening I escaped from the backside and saved myself by hiding in the house of a neighbours.

7. That at about 6 pm, a CRP vehicle came. The neighbours reached me the police station on this vehicle.

8. That the persons who burnt my house included the following persons: -

a. Ramdhani S/o Jagan Nath of Saraswati Sisu Mandir.

b. Jang Bahadur S/o Misal Chand of Saraswati Shishu Mandir.

c. Mohan Lal W/o Chhotey Lal of X-160, J.J. Colony Mangolpuri.

9. That our car and house was burnt due to the coordination of police and the mob. The police never helped me. Instead it believed with me like an enemy.

10. That I myself along with my family members witnessed the entire incident. Included in them is S. Pal Singh, my neighbour and his family members.
