1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

Affidavit of Kuldip Kaur W/o S. Bawa Singh, aged 33 years, r/o 32, Amar Colony, Nangloi, Delhi, presently residing at C-94, Tilak Vihar, New Delhi.

I, Kuldip Kaur, solemnly affirm as under: -

1. That on 1-11-1984, at about 7 am, late S. Harbhajan Singh came and told us "the Gurdwara has been demolished and I have brought my scooter." We locked our house and on our scooter, we turned towards Nangloi about 8 am. There we were surrounded and beaten.

We did not get down from our scooter and returned to our house. Ram Kumar Gupta, Randhir (President of the colony) and another residents of the colony were holding meetings at about 8:30 am. On return to our house we prepared tea and took some food. A little while after, about 30 to 40 persons came and set the scooter on fire after pouring oil on it.

Among them was Kalicharan a black complexion and lean bodied resident of Kamruddin Nagar. We extinguished fire after these people left. After some time a gang of 50 to 60 persons came again among who were Ram Kumar Gupta, who runs a grocery shop along road side and Ranbir was also with them. They again set the scooter on fire and then left.

2. A big mob came a third time shouting to turn out Sardar. Among them one Rajinder pushed me out and after hurling abuses, caught hold of my husband and after dragging him out struck him with sticks and burnt the house after pouring kerosene oil. After all that happened, I went to Nangloi Police Station at about 11:30 am, there were about ten or twelve policemen but instead of listening me they said what can we do if they have killed him. Your men have also killed our mother.

3. At the police station, I saw a Sikh whom they were turning out. At about 6 pm, Constable Nawab Singh pushed me out saying you will die here. I hired a rickshaw and went to my house. A Jat of the village took me to his house. At about 8 pm my brother-in-law, who is clean shaven, came took me and my children to his house No. E-Block, Mangolpuri. Then we spent a month in the house of my sister in Kishan Ganj. I stayed for two months in 'Y' Block, Mangolpuri then shifted to Tilak Vihar.

4. Among the killer of my husband in addition to the persons named above are Goel, a grocer near the temple in our colony, Ram Bhaj, a resident of our colony selling "Gol Gappas" in the colony facing our colony and two brothers running a grocery shop at the back of our house (whose names I do not know) and several others whom I can recognize by faces.

5. Afterward, I recognized the Pan Wallah before the police and got them arrested on 15 – 16 November but no report or FIR was registered.
