1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Jaswant Kaur W/o S. Gopal Singh (Late), R/o H.No.225, Gali No. 20-B, Ashok Nagar, Shahdara, New Delhi, present address H.No.10698, Naveen, Shahdara, Gali No.1, Subhash Nagar, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under: -

That till November 1st we were residing at the above mentioned address. After the assassination of Indira Gandhi, there was news of assassination against the Sikhs all over.

Anti Sikh feelings were being aroused by police officials by using their machinery and inhuman rumors were spread by Hindu police personnel to raise Anti Sikh feelings in the Hindus. Rumors of the nature that Sikh extremists from Punjab have entered and are attacking and killing Hindus, water has been poisoned, trains full of Hindu dead bodies are coming from Punjab.

Just after the spreading of these rumors by the policemen, huge mobs consisting of local residence having lists of Sikh residents started emerging. The persons leading the mob, having lists of Sikh residents started pointing towards the Sikhs. The criminal goondas were having iron rods, rubber tyres, and petrol tins, match boxes etc.

Three male members of my family were burnt alive and whole of the property was looted and the remaining one set on fire. No help was provided for the ceremonial cremation of bodies. Then I left for Durgapuri Gurdwara where again we felt unsafe and terrified, as time and again person notably from police in plain clothes were coming and were giving threats again and again.
