1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

Affidavit of Jasbir Kaur w/o S. Jagtar Singh aged 50 years, r/o 79, Nathu Colony, Shahdara, presently residing at WZ-1E, Shahdara, New Delhi-18.

I, the deponent above-named do hereby solemnly affirm and state on oath as under: -

1. On 1-11-1984, Sikhs were killed on the road since morning and continued till night also. But nothing happened inside our colony. On 2-11-1984 our house was set ablaze at 8 am. When we had taken shelter in somebody else's house. The mob which came was being led by Mangat Ram. This Mangat Ram was inciting people to burn the houses of Sikhs and loot and plunder their belongings.

2. My sons had taken shelter in the house of some other person. After my house had been entirely looted, Mangat Ram and his brother Sukhbira told mob the place where my sons were hiding. Following persons were among the mob: -

Mintoo alias Master

Ram Saran

Arora

Ganpat

Ishwar Dyal Tyagi

Guatam Master

Ramesh Chand

All of them reside in our street.

I asked my son to take shelter in the house of Sudesh Kumari who is an active worker of HKL Bhagat. Sudesh Kumari's son Mintoo also told to the mob the places where Sikhs were hiding. Sudesh Kumari had hidden the boys in an adjacent plot and Mintoo told the mob the place of hiding.

3. The mob pulled out my three sons, brother-in-law, grandson from the place where hey were hiding, beat them mercilessly with lathis and iron rods and after pouring over them kerosene oil and some kind of white powder, burnt them. The persons above named fully participated in the crime.

4. In our house there were goods worth Rs.4 lacs which were looted. Lot of goods were brunt. My sons had a lathe machine shop whose income was about Rs.4000/- p.m. which was also looted. Thus we lost five family members and suffered a loss of lakhs of rupees. We did not get any compensation for the loss of goods. We only got compensation for the deaths.

5. Even now Mangat and Sukhbir roam about and say that they have killed only Sikhs this time but now they will not spare their women.
