1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I,Jagjit Singh, aged about 57years, s/o S. Sunder Singh r/o G-51 Kiran Garden, N.Delhi. do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under:-

1. That on 1-11-84, I was sitting outside my house at about 8 am 8-30. I heard a voice of men from the Nursery near my house that Sajjan Kumar Ji M.P. had come. I then climbed on the Taj Kitchen Van mounted on a truck outside my house, about 20 ft height in order to see Sajjan Kumar.

2. I saw Sajjan Kumar M.P. with Kirpa Ram Pradhan of Nawada Village and Manohar of Matiala Village coming towards the Nursery which is owned by Amarjit Singh Pradhan of Matiala Village. They were being followed by about 100 persons.

In the nursery about 20 persons were already sitting. Sajjan Kumar ordered distribution of Iron rods, from the Truck parked nearby there. After this distribution of Iron Rods Sajjan Kumar told the mob to attack sikhs to kill them, loot their properties and then burn their houses and shops.

3. Immediately, the mob headed by Kirpa Ram, Manohar and other Congress (I) workers of the locality, stated to attack the Sikhs. I immediately got down and hid myself.

4. This mob then proceeded towards the house and shop of Gurcharan Singh, who and his son were killed by them and their shop and house were looted. After damaging them.

5. Earlier, when they attacked Dehra of Sant Mohan Singh of Matiala Road, they damaged the property of the said Dehra / Gurdwara and burnt the car of Sant. At that time Sajjan Kumar was also there. Thereafter, he sped away and the truck with remaining iron rods also went away.

6. Property of many other Sikhs was looted and burnt by this mob on 1-11-84. On 2-11-84 at about 8 am the mob attacked my house also, when I was hiding in one opposite house. My house was looted and set on fire by the mob headed by Manohar of Matiala village, Taj Flight Kitchen was also burnt, my workshop was looted and burnt and I was put to a loss more than Rs.2,00,000/- for which no compensation is paid to me.

7. I can identify number of persons who were members of this gang. The police did not give any protection to me and other Sikhs. It was clear that the mob was acting in direct connivance of police and government. Ruling party workers were leading the mobs. Number of persons are killed in our area by the mob, but no action is taken. Culprits may be brought to book according to law.
