1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Jagjeet Kaur, W/o Maan Singh, aged about 55 yrs., R/o Plot No. 39, Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar (Sultan Wind Road), Amritsar, Punjab, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That in Oct./ Nov.'84, my son late Narender Singh then aged about 22 yrs. had come to Delhi to stay with his uncles Mahinder Singh (now dead) and Satnam Singh, residing at T-1712, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, Near Refugee Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Karol Bagh, New Delhi-110005.

2. That on 1/11/84, my son Narender Singh was attacked killed, and burnt by the mob on the main road near above said house at Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, Karol Bagh, Delhi-5.

3. That FIR No.598, dated 1/11/84, Under Sections 147/148/149/295/435/427/454/380/302, IPC was registered in the Police Station, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, Karol Bagh, Delhi. Copy enclosed as ANNEXURE-1.

4. That the report of the MHC-R dated 22-3-97, regarding the court proceedings in the Court of Sh. Subhash Wason, Metropolitan Magistrate, Delhi regarding the murder of my son Narender Singh is annexed as ANNEXURE-2.

5. That I was given a compensation of Rs.20,000/- only on account of killing of my son Narender Singh by the mob on 1-11-84. The amount was given vide Cheque No. 541461, dated 8-8-96.

6. That thereafter I applied for enhanced compensation to Sh. Lal Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Delhi. The SDM, Vide his letter No.828/SDM/KB, dated 15/6/99, required me to submit various documents (copy of the letter enclosed herewith as ANNEXURE-3). I have submitted all documents which were in my possession. All these documents have been duly received by the SDM. I told the SDM that in view of the above said facts and circumstances and the report of the Police of P.S. Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, the death certificate is not necessary. But of no avail. The recent letter of SDM bearing No. 998/SDM/KB dated 23/7/99, is enclosed as ANNEXURE-4.

7. That I have not been given enhanced compensation on account of death of my son Narender Singh, though I am entitled to get Rs.3,30,000/- as enhanced death compensation
