I, Ishwari Bai aged 28 years W/o S. Gurmukh Singh r/o Block No.32 No.56 Trilokpuri, New Delhi-110091, do hereby solemnly affirm and state on oath as under:
1. That I alongwith my family members were residing at the above address on November 1st 1984.
2. On 1.11.84 after some hours banging and shouting the mob finally broke down the door and about 20 to 25 people came in with their heads and faces covered by cloths (Chaddars). It was impossible in that night to make out who they were. But one or two had a yellow conniter of kerosene oil and boxes of matches in their hands shoutings "Soti se maaro sardaro ko".
They started hitting my husband on his head, hands and took his watch away. I threw myself and my child on my husband and implored them to leave him alone. I also said that we were not real sardars and that we came from outside. One of them finally took pity and dragged the others away.
3. In the middle of the night more people came back with torches and started checking again. This time they would not go away. I kept begging them but they threatened to kill me. They hit my husband with bricks and stones. When he asked for water, they said "Ha ha, paani do Sardar Ko. Abhi to paani pilaoge sardaro ko, aage to hame pilaogi na?"
4. My husband begged for mercy with folded hands, tried to get up, each time they would hit him. I again tried to throw myself to protect him. They dragged me and my child and threw me out of the door. They kept saying "Isko petrol daal ke jalado". They dragged him by the hair and threw him outside on the road.
He kept on struggling and they said "Saala yeh nahi marega." They finally took a strong lathis and hit his forehead till his head split. Kishori Bhangi brought a bottle of kerosene and then poured it over him and set him on fire.
One of them searched my son Hoshiyar, and threw him on the fire saying "kale saap ka baccha, usko bhi maaro". I fought and I pulled him out. One of the assailants took the child and protected him from the one who had tried to burn him.
He pleaded for the child saying he was "masoom" and that if they attacked children they would all suffer for it. I just grabbed him and ran for fear like we all did and went and hid him in my aunt's house. I am willing to attest this affidavit in front of the Commission if necessary.
