1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Iqbal Singh S/o Late S. Harnam Singh aged about 49 yrs. R/o BD-71, Janakpur, New Delhi-58, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That I along with my father late S. Harnam Singh was carrying on business of manufacturing of gaskets in partnership under the name & style "M/s Super Gasket and Allied Industries" RZ-2, Old Roshanpura, Najafgarh, New Delhi-43.

2. That at the time of riots in Oct./ Nov.'84, I was residing at DB-70, LIG Flats, Hari Nagar, New Delhi with my family and my parents and my younger brother namely Sh. Surinderpal Singh were residing at RZ-2, Old Roshanpura, Najafgarh, New Delhi-43.

3. That when the riots broke out, I could not go to my factory and was confined at my residence. I was also worried about my parents and brother who were residing at Najafgarh. At that time since I came to know that riots were more severe in that area. We could not communicate with each other even on telephone as the same had gone out of order.

4. That on 2nd Nov.'84, one of the friends of S. Surinderpal Singh came to my residence at Hari Nagar, New Delhi and disclosed that the rioters had burnt and totally destroyed our factory cum residence at RZ-2, Old Roshanpura, Najafgarh, New Delhi-43, after looting all the valuables etc. lying at the factory and the residence at the said address. I was also told that the rioters had prevented my father and my younger brother from coming out of their house after it was set on fire and they were burnt alive.

5. That I had filed a complaint with SHO P.S. Najafgarh, New Delhi-43, in respect of the above incidents copy of the same attached herewith.

6. That we had suffered a financial loss of over Rs.3,00,000/- due to the riots, besides loss of human lives.
