1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Harbir Kaur W/o Late S. Manmohan Singh aged 55 yrs. R/o 256, DDA Flats, New Ranjit Nagar, New Delhi-8, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That at the time of Nov.'84 riots, I was residing with my husband late S. Manmohan Singh and children at the above noted address.

2. That my husband was employed at a tea stall located in front of New Delhi Rly. Station.

3. That on 3rd Nov.'84, at about 4 pm my husband came back at our house in a very serious condition. He was brought by Mr. Rajesh Kumar whose name and particular I learnt subsequently. It was he who informed me that my husband was attacked by a unruly mob and due to the same my husband became unconscious and was lying on the road. Considering the plight of my husband Mr. Rajesh Kumar had pity on him and brought him to our residence in a semi conscious state.

My husband did tell me that he had been hit by a mob on his head and due to the same he was having severe pain in his head. As there was no serious injury on the body of my husband therefore I did not feel need to refer him to any hospital on the contrary I have been treating my husband at our residence. I did not consider that the head injury of my husband was of such a serious nature and accordingly we have been giving him medicines at our residence itself.

4. That my husband could not withstand the head injury which he had sustained when he attacked by the rioters and ultimately he left for heavinly abode on 7th Nov.'84. The death certificate to this effect is annexed herewith.

5. That at the relevant time my husband was aged about 53 yrs. and he was not suffering from any serious ailment and would have survived for another fairly long time. However the attack on his head by the rioters terminated his life in mid way, and thus I was forced to live a life of widow for such a long period. I have been reporting this matter to various authorities but so far I have not been granted any compensation on account of death of my husband. The cause of death of my husband's was serious blow on his head and in that the rioters of Nov.'84, are accountable. I am entitled for all the relieves and compensation which a widow of victim of riots of 1984 deserves.
