1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Gurnam Kaur, W/o Parkash Singh, aged 62 yrs., R/o 283/266, Mandiwali Gali No.8, Vishnu Garden Ext., New Delhi-110018, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That in Oct./ Nov.'84, I was staying in my own house consisting of 4 rooms at RZ-H72, Sagarpur (West), P.O. Nangal Ray, New Delhi-46. My husband was abroad in Iraq on a construction contract.

2. That my eldest son, age 20 yrs., was running a general store in the outer room of our house.

3. That at midnight 31st Oct./ 1st Nov., our house was attacked by an armed violent mob of about 600 persons. In the darkness of the night, I and my three children took shelter with Sh. Tyagi- one of our neighbour.

4. That the mob looted our house and set it on fire. When the mob retreated I saw my house. It was completely destroyed.

5. That I and my children remained hiding in our neighbour house till 4th Nov. when we were evacuated by a military transport to a refugee camp set up in Sadar Gurdwara where we stayed till 22nd Nov.

6. That I lodged a detailed FIR in Police Station, Delhi Cantt. a 12th Nov.'84, detailing the loss of property and household goods and the well stocked general store. (copy attached)

7. That I suffered a loss of Rs.5 lakhs. I have received a compensation of Rs.20,000/- (in two instalments of Rs.10,000/- each) so far.

8. That I pray that my loss be compensated.
