1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Gurmeet Kaur, aged about 53 years, w/o S. Swaran Singh, r/o C-94, DDA Flats, Slum Tenements, Garhi, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. Earlier I was living at S-70, School Block, Shakarpur, Delhi-92. On 1-11-84, at about 9 AM my house was stoned and was then set on fire. The mob which was consisting of Non-Sikhs and was led by Bhoop Singh Tyagi, Youth Congress (I) President of the area who was saying " Kill the Sikhs and no one should go away alive, Blood for Blood" slogans were raised by him.

He was accompanied by about more than 600 Non-Sikhs who attacked my house. Our doors were broken. My husband Swaran Singh and my son Ajit Singh were dragged out by them and were killed with iron rods and were burnt alive. My son Raghubir Singh was killed in the house itself. Harjinder Singh ran out. He was killed by iron rods and then he was also set on fire.

2. My house was looted by them causing loss of more than Rs.10,00,000/-. Police was present amongst the mob. They did not protect us but rather instigated the mob to commit murder, looting and burning of properties.

3. Among this mob, I could identify, Chhotu Tyagi's both sons from whom we purchased our plot, Sham Singh Tyagi of School Block, Shakarpur, Anil Puri and Madan Lal both of School Block, Bhoop Singh Tyagi, Raju of flour mill, one Titu one Tilak, Kalu Nai and many others of our locality whom I can identify, took part in the commission of these crimes and murdering my husband and sons.

4. I told the police about the names of murderers and looters as stated above, but the police refused to record my report, saying that such things have happened with every Sikh.

5. I say that in this carnage, police and Congress (I) leaders and workers has played most nefarious part, who well planned and executed this conspiracy to wipe out Sikh community.

Action may be taken against culprits and compensation may be given to me for loss.
