1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Dhan Kaur W/o Late Sewa Singh aged about 65 yrs. R/o WZ – 20 B, Krishna Park, Tilak Nagar, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That during Oct./ Nov.'84. I was residing at Y-883, J.J. Colony Nangloi No.1 New Delhi-41. I was residing there alone as my two young sons died due to drowning in river Yamuna on the eve of Baisakhi in the year 1980.

2. That on 1-11-84, at about 11am my relatives advised me to remain indoor as there was danger outside. I bolted the door from inside and concealed myself inside the house. At about 12 Noon violent mob surrounded my house and started pelting stones. Somehow I managed to reach Gurdwara situated nearby after locking my house.

3. That thereafter the miscreants came to Gurdwara also and set it on fire. From there I took shelter here and there with my neighbours to save my life but they also used to turn me out saying that if they sheltered us, the violent mob will kill them too.

4. That the violent miscreants broke open my house and looted my household belongings and set the house on fire.

5. That somehow I managed to reach Police Station Nangloi on 3-11-84. From there, my relatives took me to Tilak Nagar. I filed a complaint with the P.S. Nangloi on 12-11-84. (copy of which is enclosed.)

6. That I suffered a loss of Rs.50,000/- on account of damage to my house and loss of my belongings. I did not get any compensation from the Govt.
