1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Daya Kaur, aged about 40 years, wife of S. Balbir Singh, r/o C-42, DDA Flats, Slum Tenements, Garhi, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. That I alongwith my family members was earlier residing at A-3/69, Nand Nagri, near Shahdara, at the relevant time.

2. That on 1-11-84 in the morning about 2000 Non-Sikhs mob with iron rods, lathis, and kerosene oil burnt the Gurdwara and then attacked the houses of Jaswant Singh, Ishwar Singh, Joginder Singh and Onkar Singh in our street in the morning and killed them, alongwith Kamaljit Singh s/o Joginder Singh. The houses were looted and burnt.

3. That at about 8.30 PM on 1-11-84, the Non-Sikh mob attacked my house also and killed my husband Balbir Singh. They looted and burnt my house also.

4. That the main culprits and assailants were Jamna Devi and her five sons Prabhu, Rattan, Pappu, Surinder and Rajinder all Congress (I) workers, and Ashok whose brother is having Fair Price Shop in the market from where we used to draw our ration, and others whom I can identity and are residents of the area.

5. My report was not recorded by the police as I was mentioning the names of he culprits. I was told to go away otherwise they would teach me a lesson.

6. Kindly take action against the culprits and pay compensation for the loss of my property worth Rs.1,80,000/-.
