1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Darshan Kaur, the abovenamed deponent do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under:

1. That I say that on 1st November, 1984 at around 10 AM I went to the shop nearby to buy match box. I saw groups of few people standing on the road with lathis, iron rods and barcha in their hands. 2 policemen on a 2-wheeler scooter. The 2 policemen asked these groups of people why are you standing here, "why are you afraid of them, just go and kill all Sardars". These were mainly from the same locality. I rushed back home. Immediately after getting instructions from the police they started moving towards 32 Block, and started looting Block 32, and were bringing the loot to Block-31. I was watching all this from the roof of my house.

2. One lady named Kalavati who is residing behind my house asked her son, pointing towards me that this is also Sardar's house, go and burn them also. I got afraid and I alongwith my 3 children took shelter at one widow's place (Rajasthan). I locked my house from outside. Sita Ram Aiyan and some other people whom I can identify came and broke the main door of my house. Then Kamruddin, Ghafar Khan, Agent Singh, alongwith others looted my house. Then Kalava gave kerosene oil to them. They all burnt my house. Even the roof of the house collapsed. My husband and brother-in-law were hiding themselves somewhere.

3. For 3 days, the words were coming to my ears "Maro Sardaro Ko Ek Na Choro". I was hiding myself at that widow's house when I saw one Sardar who dressed himself in Salwar-Kameez from the window. People pointed towards him, "he is Sardar, kill him". The mob killed that Sardar with lathis, iron rods and barches. On 2nd November 1984, the police made a round and asked who were killing and looting, why these dead bodies are lying here. Just burn them because military is coming and curfew will be imposed. There should be no evidence of these dead bodies. These goondas burnt these dead bodies. All these goondas burnt Sikh houses, killed our people with the help of police.

4. On 3rd November 1984, military came around 12 A.M., and rescued us to Kalyanpuri Thana. Nagrik Ekta Manch helped us for the food. On the same day, we all were brought the Farsh Bazar Camp by military only. Since then I am with family staying here. My husband came back to this camp after one and a half month. If I go to Trilokpuri for taking Ration. Agent Singh and his goondas threatens me that if they will find any member of my family, they will kill to death. People's Relief Committee has helped us a lot.
