1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

AFFIDAVIT OF CHARANJIT KAUR, WIFE OF SH. SURINDER SINGH AGED 32 YEARS, RESIDENT OF K-BLOCK, 1499/1500, JAHANGIRPURI, DELHI.

I, Charanjit Kaur, the above named Deponent do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under: -

1. I say that my husband is a mason. I have one daughter and three sons. My husband left on 31st October, 1984 to his village, Kashipurm, in Nainital Distt. Uttar Pradesh.

2. On 1st November around 3:00 AM, I saw a mob of nearly 800 persons in my street. They killed the driver, a Sikh of an apple truck parked at the end of the street and burnt him along with the truck, then they proceeded to the Gurdwara insulted the Guru Granth Sahib and burnt it, and looted the place.

3. The crowd was a mixture, it had both locals and outsiders. The locals came from the C-Block and I-Block of Jahangirpuri, Delhi. The crowd had iron rods, fire torches, sticks (lathis) and butcher's knives with them.

4. My son Paramjit Singh aged 15 a clean shaven Sikh is an eye withness of the whole incident.

5. The crowd then came towards my house broke open all the lock and entered my house. Around 40 or 50 people entered into the house, took the things-fridges, television set and other household articles outside the house to the street and burnt it. I estimate the extent of material loss to be about Rs.60,000/- (Rs. Sixty Thousand Only).
