1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Bhola Singh, aged about 81 years, s/o Lala Ladha Ram, r/o 18/137, East Moti Bagh, Sarai Rohilla, Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. I say that on 1-11-84, at abut 10 AM, I and my other family members received information from two Hindu Boys of our street (who do not want to be named), that in the night of 31-10-84, Anil Kumar Gupta of Shop No.35, Old Rohtak Road, Kishan Ganj Market, Delhi and Amar Nath Babber of shop No.78 of the said market, had put marks on the shop of Sikhs including our shop. These two persons are Congress (I) workers. At about 11 AM Mohinder Kaur wife of my son Gian Singh was sent to the shop to find out the position there. I and other male members of my family could not move out due to serious danger to our lives around.

2. That whatever Mohinder Kaur saw at the spot about the looting and burning of our shop No.24, Kishan Ganj Market, Delhi and about other shops of the Sikhs in the area is detailed in the affidavit dated 4.9.85 of my son Gian Singh.

3. That at about 4 PM on 1-11-84, Moman Singh, r/o 18/137, East Moti Bagh, Delhi, Ramesh Kumar of West Moti Bagh, Delhi, Anil Kumar Gupta of shop No.35, Kishan Ganj Market, Delhi. Amar Nath Babber of shop No.78 of the said market and Suresh Milk vendor in corner shop in gali No.1 of East Moti Bagh, Delhi came to our house with 3/4 other persons and loudly said that they had already looted our shop and would then loot our house also and would kill us. We took out swords and challenged them to save our lives and properties. They ran away and on their way at the road they set on fire four trucks of another Sikh.

4. We have suffered a loss of about Rs.55,000/-. No criminal case is registered against the culprits. The police did not protect us and other Sikhs and their property. My report to the above effect was not recorded by the police who said that almost all the Sikhs are sufferers in the same manner and why should I lodge such a report which would create had blood.

5. I say that it was well organized conspiracy of Hindu against the Sikhs supported by the ruling party and the police.

6. I say that action may be taken against the culprits and the police and proper compensation may be paid to me.
