1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Baldev Singh S/o S. Himmat Singh, age about 35 yrs., R/o WZ-42, Plot No.79, Vishnu Garden, New Delhi, do hereby solemn affirmation state and declare as under:-

1. That in November 1984, I was residing at 16/5988, Block No.3, Gali No.2, Dev Nagar, Karol Bagh, ND, along with my 2 brothers and father.

2. That on 1-11-84, at about 11 am, the mob attacked the Gurdwara Sahib situated in our street near our house. The said Gurdwara Sahib was looted by the rioters and thereafter set on fire. The Ground Floor portion was completely burnt. This action of the rioters was continued up till Noon.

3. That after burning the said Gurdwara Sahib the mob attacked our house and started pelting stones on us heavily. The rioters were having iron rods and lathis in their hands. At that time, we 3 brothers were at home. We also throwing backed those stones, which was received by us from the hands of the mob. I sustained head injuries when the mob was pelting stones on us, consequently I became unconscious.

4. That during this attack my brother was also sustained head injuries when a big stone hit his head and subsequently he succumbed this injury in the hospital. No lady was present in the said house at that time, when mob attacked our house. My third brother skipped from the house by scaling wall. Subsequently, I came to know our house was looted and then burnt by the rioters. The rioters came from Anand Parbat colonies and their faces were familiar to me. Police had not arrested the true culprits.

5. That my father had received compensation in respect of death of my brother and I had received Rs.2,000/- in respect of my injuries. But no compensation has been given to us in respect of our property.
