1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Anek Singh, S/o Chakar Singh, aged about 60 yrs., R/o A-67, Vikas Vihar, Village Nilothi, Nangaloi, Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That in Oct./ Nov.'84, I along with my family was residing at E-6/244, Sultanpuri, Delhi-41, and my son Ashok Singh was residing in Jhuggi in E-6, Sultanpuri, Delhi-41. We both were carrying on the business of making iron tools and implements.

2. That there was great tension in Sultanpuri from 1st Nov. to 3rd Nov.'84, as armed miscreants were roaming freely in the area killing Sikhs and burning and looting their houses.

3. That we apprehended great danger to our lives but somehow managed to hide ourselves on 1st Nov. and 2nd Nov.'84, and save ourselves from the miscreants.

4. That on 3rd Nov. the military people rescued us and took us to the Riot Victims Relief Camp at A- Block, Sultanpuri, Delhi. We remained there up to 9-11-84.

5. That when we returned to our houses on 9-11-84, we found that our houses had been burnt and all over household goods had been looted and taken away by miscreants.

6. That we lodged our complaints with the police of P.S. Sultanpuri, Delhi on 9-11-84, (copy of the complaints are enclosed as Annexure 1). Our loss is as follows:-

a. Loss of my household goods/articles Rs.40,000/-

b. Loss of household goods/articles of my son Ashok Singh Rs.25,000/-

but none of my articles were recovered and restored to me so far. Details of loss has been stated in the complaints dtd. 9-11-84.

7. That we should be granted compensation for the loss of household goods suffered by us.
