Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

Affidavit of Amarjit Kaur wife of S. Kirpal Singh, age 42 years, resident of WA-83A, Shakarpur, Delhi-110092. Present address C/o S. Kirpal Singh, Guru Har Krishan Senior Secodary School, Bangla Sahib, New Delhi.

I, Amarjit Kaur, solemnly affirm as under: -

On the evening of 31-10-84, a Sikh who was going on a cycle, was severely beaten outside our house. Later, the police came and carried him away. The local resident of the village were making lot of noise throughout the night and were shouting to burn the Gurdwara

On 1-11-84, at about 10 AM, a mob came in the house of our neighbour, S. Daljit Singh son of S. Amar Singh and after removing their household effects, set the house on fire. The mob then came outside our house and began to attack our door with iron rods which damaged our outer door. They also broke our name plate and were asking to open the door.

The mob included Tilak Raj, Sham Singh Tyagi, Man Singh owner of flour mill, Raju Gupta, Bhup Singh and other residents of the area. When I opened my door, they asked me about the men folk. I told them that my husband had gone to Punjab and the children had not returned from their shop at Bangla Sahib. After making a search of our house, they went away but kept a vigil on our house and came for a search nearly ten times. Even they made us open our door to check if the make members were inside the house.

Our men were in the house on 2-11-84. They were confined indoors for about 60 hours from 1-11-84 to 3-11-84.

On 3-11-84, CRP and military came and we all went to Shakarpur Police Station in the military van. A camp was set up in Gita Colony Police Station where Sikhs from the entire area assembled. We stayed there upto 8-11-84. When we came to see our house later, we found it to have been plundered. We incurred a loss of about Rs.Sixty thousand and have not been given any compensation.

The entire household effects of my husband's elder brother were also in our house since he was working in External Affairs Ministry and had gone to Ottawa in Canada on 28-10-84. All his property was also looted for which he filed a claim through his office.
