1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Amarjit Kaur, aged 32 years w/o S. Balbir Singh, R/o C-34, DDA Flats, Slum Tenements Garhi, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation, state and declare as under: -

1. Earlier I along with my family was living in Qrt. No.77 – 78, Trilokpuri, Delhi-91, alongwith my children, at the relevant time.

2. On 1.11.84 at about 11 AM mob of Non-Sikhs attack the jewellery shop at No.24/281, in front of the road at which my house was situated at Trilokpuri and which belonged to my relation, and the same was looted, and burnt. In the evening Manga Singh and his father Atam Singh, owner of that shop came to my house for shelter. On 2-11-84, we remained behind doors but we saw smoke rising to the sky from various places of the vicinity due to burning of the property.

3. On 3.11.84, at about 5.30 AM mob of Non-Sikhs attacked our house, started brick batting our house and they broke open our door and took out my husband Balbir Singh and Manga Singh and Atam Singh and they were beaten by iron rods and kerosene oil was sprinkled on them and were burnt while still alive. I can recognize most of the assailants who committed this murder one of them was Subhash who was tenant at H.No.24/281, Trilokpuri and another Mangia, a military man living in my street and several others of my street whom I can identify.

4. The police van just passed our house when my husband and others were killed by the mob. No police assistance was given to me and my report was not registered.

5. Kindly take action against the culprits and I should be compensated for the loss of lives and property.
