1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

Affidavit of Ajit Singh Sahni S/o Gurbachan Singh Sahni, aged 67 yrs., R/o 5/22, Model Town, Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under: -

On 1st November,'84, at about 10 a.m., I came to my factory at Mori Gate to inspect it. As I reached there I found that the landlord of the factory Banwari Lal and his two sons Bir and younger to him had collected about 20 persons and had set my factory on fire. On seeing me Banwari Lal shouted that "Sikh has come catch him and put him in the fire". I immediately speeded my car and returned to Model Town.

At 1:30 P.M., on 1st November,`84, a mob of about 400 apprehended our house. The mob was being led by a light green coloured jeep on which Congress flag was flying. There were about 6 persons in it. One of them pointed my house and shouted that this is a Sikh's house, loot it and kill the Sikhs. The mob started pelting stones at the house and broke all glass panes. After that they entered the compound and started breaking the doors etc. They were carrying steel rods, lathis and kerosene bottles.

I came out to the balcony of the first floor with my gun and fired in the air. The mob ran out of the compound and collected at a distance and continued throwing stones and advancing towards my house, in the meanwhile someone rang the police. After about one hour of mob attack, Flying Squad and police party from Model Town, P.S. came to the site. Seeing the police, I turned my back to get into the door.

I saw a police van standing near the Flying Squad police car, aiming with the gun towards me. Within a second the shot was fired by police man injuring me at the back with two pellets. I started heavily bleeding. In the meanwhile the police came in and took me down. ACP Mr. Kashyap took me to Hindu Rao Hospital for treatment in his jeep. I stayed in the hospital two days. In the meanwhile armed Constables were posted at my house by the ACP for about two days. My gun and revolver were taken by the police and returned to me after about four months.
