Bhatt Jalap

Bhatt Jalap, also wrote under the name of Jalh. Bhatt Jalap composed five swayas that are included in the Adi Granth. Jalap Bhatt extolled the Guru in the following words: "Seeing the Guru's vision, the disciple is blessed with the Lord's meditation, service, truth and contentrnent Whosoever seeks the Guru's refuge is liberated from the account of the city of death" (p.1394).

His bani starts from Page 1394, Line 4 to Page 1395, Line 2. He appears to be an intellectual, well known and had a lot of knowledge of hindu mythology. As per the chronicles, Jalap was the son of Bhatt Bhika & Brother of Bhatt Mathura and Bhatt Kirat. Being a true devotee of Guru Amar Das, he preaches complete submission to him in the following Swaiya :

ਚਰਣ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਚਰਣ ਗ੝ਰ ਅਮਰ ਪਵਲਿ ਰਯ ॥
Cẖaraṇ ṯa par sakyath cẖaraṇ gur amar paval ra­y.
Supremely fruitful are the feet which walk upon the path of Guru Amar Daas.

ਹਥ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਹਥ ਲਗਹਿ ਗ੝ਰ ਅਮਰ ਪਯ ॥
Hath ṯa par sakyath hath lageh gur amar pa­y.
Supremely fruitful are the hands which touch the feet of Guru Amar Daas.

ਜੀਹ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਜੀਹ ਗ੝ਰ ਅਮਰ੝ ਭਣਿਜੈ ॥
Jīh ṯa par sakyath jīh gur amar bẖaṇijai.
Supremely fruitful is the tongue which utters the praises of Guru Amar Daas.

ਨੈਣ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਨਯਣਿ ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਅਮਰ੝ ਪਿਖਿਜੈ ॥
Naiṇ ṯa par sakyath na­yaṇ gur amar pikẖijai.
Supremely fruitful are the eyes which behold Guru Amar Daas.

ਸ੝ਰਵਣ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਸ੝ਰਵਣਿ ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਅਮਰ੝ ਸ੝ਣਿਜੈ ॥
Sarvaṇ ṯa par sakyath sarvaṇ gur amar suṇijai.
Supremely fruitful are the ears which hear the Praises of Guru Amar Daas.

ਸਕਯਥ੝ ਸ੝ ਹੀਉ ਜਿਤ੝ ਹੀਅ ਬਸੈ ਗ੝ਰ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ੝ ਨਿਜ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਤ ॥
Sakyath so hī­o jiṯ hī­a basai gur Amarḝĝs nij jagaṯ piṯ.
Fruitful is the heart in which Guru Amar Daas, the Father of the world, Himself abides.

ਸਕਯਥ੝ ਸ੝ ਸਿਰ੝ ਜਾਲਪ੝ ਭਣੈ ਜ੝ ਸਿਰ੝ ਨਿਵੈ ਗ੝ਰ ਅਮਰ ਨਿਤ ॥੧॥੧੦॥
Sakyath so sir jĝlap bẖaṇai jo sir nivai gur amar niṯ. ||1||10||
Fruitful is the head, says Jaalap, which bows forever before Guru Amar Daas. ||1||10||

ਤਿ ਨਰ ਦ੝ਖ ਨਹ ਭ੝ਖ ਤਿ ਨਰ ਨਿਧਨ ਨਹ੝ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ॥
Ŧe nar ḝukẖ nah bẖukẖ ṯe nar niḝẖan nahu kahī­ahi.
They do not suffer pain or hunger, and they cannot be called poor.

ਤਿ ਨਰ ਸੋਕ੝ ਨਹ੝ ਹੂਝ ਤਿ ਨਰ ਸੇ ਅੰਤ੝ ਨ ਲਹੀਅਹਿ ॥
Ŧe nar sok nahu hu­ai ṯe nar sė anṯ na lahī­ah.
They do not grieve, and their limits cannot be found.

ਤਿ ਨਰ ਸੇਵ ਨਹ੝ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਿ ਨਰ ਸਯ ਸਹਸ ਸਮਪਹਿ ॥
Ŧe nar sėv nahu karahi ṯe nar sa­y sahas sampeh.
They do not serve anyone else, but they give gifts to hundreds and thousands.

ਤਿ ਨਰ ਦ੝ਲੀਚੈ ਬਹਹਿ ਤਿ ਨਰ ਉਥਪਿ ਬਿਥਪਹਿ ॥
Ŧe nar ḝulīcẖai baheh ṯe nar uthap bithpahi.
They sit on beautiful carpets; they establish and disestablish at will.

ਸ੝ਖ ਲਹਹਿ ਤਿ ਨਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਅਭੈ ਪਟ੝ ਰਿਪ ਮਧਿ ਤਿਹ ॥
Sukẖ laheh ṯe nar sansĝr meh abẖai pat rip maḝẖ ṯih.
They find peace in this world, and live fearlessly amidst their enemies.

ਸਕਯਥ ਤਿ ਨਰ ਜਾਲਪ੝ ਭਣੈ ਗ੝ਰ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ੝ ਸ੝ਪ੝ਰਸੰਨ੝ ਜਿਹ ॥੨॥੧੧॥
Sakyath ṯe nar jĝlap bẖaṇai gur Amarḝĝs suparsan jih. ||2||11||
They are fruitful and prosperous, says Jaalap. Guru Amar Daas is pleased with them. ||2||11||

ਤੈ ਪਢਿਅਉ ਇਕ੝ ਮਨਿ ਧਰਿਅਉ ਇਕ੝ ਕਰਿ ਇਕ੝ ਪਛਾਣਿਓ ॥
Ŧai padẖi­a­o ik man dẖari­a­o ik kar ik pacẖẖĝṇi­o.
You read about the One Lord, and enshrine Him in Your mind; You realize the One and Only Lord.

ਨਯਣਿ ਬਯਣਿ ਮ੝ਹਿ ਇਕ੝ ਇਕ੝ ਦ੝ਹ੝ ਠਾਂਇ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਓ ॥
Na­yaṇ ba­yaṇ muhi ik ik ḝuhu ṯẖĝʼn­ė na jĝṇi­o.
With Your eyes and the words You speak, You dwell upon the One Lord; You do not know any other place of rest.

ਸ੝ਪਨਿ ਇਕ੝ ਪਰਤਖਿ ਇਕ੝ ਇਕਸ ਮਹਿ ਲੀਣਉ ॥
Supan ik parṯakẖ ik ikas meh līṇa­o.
You know the One Lord while dreaming, and the One Lord while awake. You are absorbed in the One.

ਤੀਸ ਇਕ੝ ਅਰ੝ ਪੰਜਿ ਸਿਧ੝ ਪੈਤੀਸ ਨ ਖੀਣਉ ॥
Ŧīs ik ar panj siḝẖ paiṯīs na kẖīṇa­o.
At the age of seventy-one, You began to march towards the Indestructible Lord.

ਇਕਹ੝ ਜਿ ਲਾਖ੝ ਲਖਹ੝ ਅਲਖ੝ ਹੈ ਇਕ੝ ਇਕ੝ ਕਰਿ ਵਰਨਿਅਉ ॥
Ikahu je lĝkẖ lakẖahu alakẖ hai ik ik kar varni­a­o.
The One Lord, who takes hundreds of thousands of forms, cannot be seen. He can only be described as One.

ਗ੝ਰ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜਾਲਪ੝ ਭਣੈ ਤੂ ਇਕ੝ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਇਕ੝ ਮੰਨਿਅਉ ॥੩॥੧੨॥
Gur Amarḝĝs jĝlap bẖaṇai ṯū ik loṛeh ik manni­a­o. ||3||12||
So speaks Jaalap: O Guru Amar Daas, You long for the One Lord, and believe in the One Lord alone. ||3||12||

ਜਿ ਮਤਿ ਗਹੀ ਜੈਦੇਵਿ ਜਿ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਸੰਮਾਣੀ ॥
Je maṯ gahī Jaiḝėv je maṯ nĝmai sammĝṇī.
The understanding which Jai Dayv grasped, the understanding which permeated Naam Dayv,

ਜਿ ਮਤਿ ਤ੝ਰਿਲੋਚਨ ਚਿਤਿ ਭਗਤ ਕੰਬੀਰਹਿ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
Je maṯ Ŧrilocẖan cẖiṯ bẖagaṯ kambīreh jĝṇī.
the understanding which was in the consciousness of Trilochan and known by the devotee Kabeer,

ਰ੝ਕਮਾਂਗਦ ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਰਾਮ੝ ਜੰਪਹ੝ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ॥
Rukmĝʼngaḝ karṯūṯ rĝm jampahu niṯ bẖĝ­ī.
by which Rukmaangad constantly meditated on the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny,

ਅੰਮਰੀਕਿ ਪ੝ਰਹਲਾਦਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Ammrīk parahlĝḝ saraṇ gobinḝ gaṯ pĝ­ī.
which brought Ambreek and Prahlaad to seek the Sanctuary of the Lord of the Universe, and which brought them to salvation -

ਤੈ ਲੋਭ੝ ਕ੝ਰੋਧ੝ ਤ੝ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤਜੀ ਸ੝ ਮਤਿ ਜਲ੝ਯ੝ਯ ਜਾਣੀ ਜ੝ਗਤਿ ॥
Ŧai lobẖ kroḝẖ ṯarisnĝ ṯajī so maṯ jal­y jĝṇī jugaṯ.
says JALL that sublime understanding has brought You to renounce greed, anger and desire, and to know the way.

ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ੝ ਨਿਜ ਭਗਤ੝ ਹੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸ੝ ਪਾਵਉ ਮ੝ਕਤਿ ॥੪॥੧੩॥
Gur Amarḝĝs nij bẖagaṯ hai ḝėkẖ ḝaras pĝva­o mukaṯ. ||4||13||
Guru Amar Daas is the Lord's own devotee; gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, one is liberated. ||4||13||

ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ੝ ਪਰਸੀਝ ਪ੝ਹਮਿ ਪਾਤਿਕ ਬਿਨਾਸਹਿ ॥
Gur Amarḝĝs parsī­ai puham pĝṯik binĝseh.
Meeting with Guru Amar Daas, the earth is purged of its sin.

ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ੝ ਪਰਸੀਝ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਆਸਾਸਹਿ ॥
Gur Amarḝĝs parsī­ai siḝẖ sĝḝẖik ĝsĝseh.
The Siddhas and seekers long to meet with Guru Amar Daas.

ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ੝ ਪਰਸੀਝ ਧਿਆਨ੝ ਲਹੀਝ ਪਉ ਮ੝ਕਿਹਿ ॥
Gur Amarḝĝs parsī­ai ḝẖi­ĝn lahī­ai pa­o mukihi.
Meeting with Guru Amar Daas, the mortal meditates on the Lord, and his journey comes to its end.

ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ੝ ਪਰਸੀਝ ਅਭਉ ਲਭੈ ਗਉ ਚ੝ਕਿਹਿ ॥
Gur Amarḝĝs parsī­ai abẖa­o labẖai ga­o cẖukihi.
Meeting with Guru Amar Daas, the Fearless Lord is obtained, and the cycle of reincarnation is brought to an end.

ਇਕ੝ ਬਿੰਨਿ ਦ੝ਗਣ ਜ੝ ਤਉ ਰਹੈ ਜਾ ਸ੝ਮੰਤ੝ਰਿ ਮਾਨਵਹਿ ਲਹਿ ॥
Ik binn ḝugaṇ jo ṯa­o rahai jĝ sumanṯar mĝnvahi leh.
Realizing the One Lord, love of duality ceases, and one comes to accept the Sublime Mantra of the Guru.

ਜਾਲਪਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਇਤੜੇ ਗ੝ਰ ਅਮਰਦਾਸਿ ਡਿਠੈ ਮਿਲਹਿ ॥੫॥੧੪॥
Jĝlpĝ paḝĝrath iṯ­ṛė gur Amarḝĝs diṯẖai mileh. ||5||14||
So speaks Jaalap: countless treasures are obtained, by the sight of Guru Amar Daas. ||5||14||
