Bhatt Bhalh

Bhalh was a Bard and Devotee of God whose Bani is present in Sri Adi Granth. Only one Swaiya of Bhatt Bhalh is available comprising of 4 lines. It is written in praise of Guru Amar Das. Surprisingly enough, this small poem is impregnated with symbolic imagery, refined poetic vocabulary, beautiful syntex, and impressive expression.

ਘਨਹਰ ਬੂੰਦ ਬਸ੝ਅ ਰੋਮਾਵਲਿ ਕ੝ਸਮ ਬਸੰਤ ਗਨੰਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
The raindrops of the clouds, the plants of the earth, and the flowers of the spring cannot be counted.

ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਉਦਰ੝ ਸਾਗਰ ਕੋ ਗੰਗ ਤਰੰਗ ਅੰਤ੝ ਕੋ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Who can know the limits of the rays of the sun and the moon, the waves of the ocean and the Ganges?

ਰ੝ਦ੝ਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰ ਕੇ ਕਬਿ ਜਨ ਭਲ੝ਯ੝ਯ ਉਨਹ ਜ+ ਗਾਵੈ ॥

ਭਲੇ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਗ੝ਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਤੋਹਿ ਬਨਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੧॥੨੨॥

ਘਨਹਰ ਬੂੰਦ ਬਸ੝ਅ ਰੋਮਾਵਲਿ ਕ੝ਸਮ ਬਸੰਤ ਗਨੰਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਉਦਰ੝ ਸਾਗਰ ਕੋ ਗੰਗ ਤਰੰਗ ਅੰਤ੝ ਕੋ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

Meanings: ਘਨਹਰ = ਬੱਦਲ। ਬੂੰਦ = ਕਣੀਆਂ। ਘਨਹਰ ਬੂੰਦ = ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਣੀਆਂ। ਬਸ੝ਅ = ਬਸ੝ਧਾ, ਧਰਤੀ। ਰੋਮਾਵਲਿ = ਰੋਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੰਕਤੀ। ਬਸ੝ਅ ਰੋਮਾਵਲਿ = ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਰੋਮਾਵਲੀ, ਬਨਸਪਤੀ। ਕ੝ਸਮ = ਫ੝ੱਲ। ਬਸੰਤ = ਬਸੰਤ ਰ੝ੱਤ ਦੇ। ਗਨੰਤ = ਗਿਣਦਿਆਂ। ਰਵਿ = ਸੂਰਜ। ਸਸਿ = ਚੰਦ੝ਰਮਾ। ਉਦਰ੝ = ਪੇਟ। ਗੰਗ ਤਰੰਗ = ਗੰਗਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ (ਠਿਲ੝ਹਾਂ)। ਕੋ = ਕੌਣ? ਪਾਵੈ = ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

Interpretations: ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਣੀਆਂ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ, ਬਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਫ੝ੱਲ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ੝ਰਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਰਨਾਂ, ਸਮ੝ੰਦਰ ਦਾ ਪੇਟ ਗੰਗਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਠਿਲ੝ਹਾਂ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਕੌਣ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?

Meanings: ਰ੝ਦ੝ਰ = ਸ਼ਿਵ। ਰ੝ਦ੝ਰ ਧਿਆਨ = ਸ਼ਿਵ ਜੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ (ਭਾਵ, ਪੂਰਨ ਅਡੋਲ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾ ਕੇ)। ਭਲ੝ਯ੝ਯ = ਹੇ ਭਲ੝ਯ੝ਯ! ਉਨਹ = ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਣੀਆਂ, ਬਨਸਪਤੀ, ਬਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਫ੝ੱਲ, ਸੂਰਜ ਚੰਦ੝ਰਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਰਨਾਂ, ਸਮ੝ੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਥਾਹ, ਤੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਠਿਲ੝ਹਾਂ = ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ। ਜ+ ਗਾਵੈ = ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰ ਲਝ ਤਾਂ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਰ ਲਝ। ਤੋਹਿ = ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ। ਬਨਿ ਆਵੈ = ਫਬਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਪਮਾ = ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੈ। ਤੇਰੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਤੋਹਿ ਬਨਿ ਆਵੈ = ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੱਸੀਝ ਤਾਂ ਗੱਲ ਫਬਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜ+ = (ਅਸਲੀ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਹੈ 'ਜੋ' ਇਥੇ ਪੜ੝ਹਨਾ ਹੈ 'ਜ੝')।੧।੨੨।

Interpretations: ਸ਼ਿਵ ਜੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦ੝ਆਰਾ, ਹੇ ਭਲ੝ਯ੝ਯ ਕਵੀ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਪਰ-ਦੱਸੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨ੝ੱਖ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ, ਪਰ ਭੱਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਕ੝ਲ ਵਿਚ ਪ੝ਰਗਟ ਹੋਝ ਹੇ ਗ੝ਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਗ੝ਣ ਵਰਣਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ। ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ।੧।੨੨।
