Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was known as Gobind Rai before he became Guru. As a child, Gobind Rai visited Lakhnaur Sahib with his mother Mata Gujri and other Sikhs accompanying them. They were travelling from Patna to Anandpur Sahib to re-join Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
The village of Lakhnaur Sahib was Mata Gujri's ancestral home and so was Guru Gobind Singh's Nanke. Gobind Rai stayed at Lakhnaur Sahib for about 7 months. Bhano Kheri is very close to Lakhnaur Sahib, about 2 km's away on the eastern side.
It is said that Gobind Rai had a troublesome snake removed from the village. Some of the villagers asked young Gobind Rai to cure them of diseases. Guru Ji asked them to bathe in a nearby pond which helped them. The site is now known as Gurdwara Sri Gendsar Sahib. The sarovar is still said to have healing properties.
