Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Sahib Awantipora, situated near the banks of the Jhelum and the National Highway at Awantipora, is also known as 'Charan Asthhan Guru Nanak Sahib Ji'.
Awantipora was once the capital of King Awantivarman (855-883 AD) who laid foundation of this city during his reign. The town has ruins of two hindu complexes built during this period.
Sri Guru Nanak Sahib Ji is said to have visited this site with Bhai Mardana during his third udasis in the year 1518 AD.
Guru Nanak also went to Beerwah, Qazigund, Bijbihara, Amar Nath, Pahalgham, Mattan and Leh on this journey. Gurdwaras have also been built at all those places to commemorate the visit of Guru Nanak.
The Awantipora Gurudwara has a Garden attached to it. The management of the Gurudwara provides accommodation and free kitchen to visitors without consideration to caste or creed.
