Sahnewal is a growing village that is situated near Ludhiana on the GT Road.
There are 2 Historic Sikh Gurdwaras in Sahnewal.
Gurdwara Sri Damdama Sahib Sahnewal is located on the eastern side of Sahnewal village. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji came here while travelling from Chamkaur, Machhiwara through to Alamgir and beyond.
Guru Sahib was sitting on a Manji which Bhai Gani Khan and Nabi Khan were carryng. Guru Sahib rested here with under karir tree. Guru Sahib sent a message to the village panchayat (committee). However, a message returned to say there was no panchayat.
Guru Gobind Singh left the area saying there would be no panchayat here in the future either.
The villagers sensed that they had made a mistake and on advice from the village elders they decided to pursue Guru Gobind Singh.
The villagers stopped Guru Sahib at the location of Gurdwara Sri Ghera Sahib, where they surrounded the Guru and begged for forgiveness. Ghera means to surround. Guru Sahib forgave the villagers and let them serve him. Guru Sahib said the the old and wise people would provide the justice in this village. Even now there is no panchayat in the village. Only the old and wise people provide the justice.
On the other side of the village, to the west of Sahnewal, there is Gurdwara Sri Reru Sahib Nandpur which also relates to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and is part of Nandpur village. The Gurdwara Sri Reru Sahib Nandpur is on the (northern) opposite side of the GT Road to Nandpur village.
